BNP Paribas Open Women's Qualifying Day 1
Even though they lost in pre-qualifying Samantha Crawford and Sachia Vickery received entry into the women's qualifying draw of the BNP Paribas Open. Vickery lost in three sets to top qualifying seed Stefania Voegele of Switzerland. Crawford did not fare any better. Monica Puig, who a scant two years ago was here as a junior herself, put paid to Crawford's ambition.
In other noteworthy matches players who have barely escaped the junior ranks met with Grace Min, a wildcard, beating K. Pliskova and Elena Svitolina defeating Eugenie Bouchard. Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski who had won the pre-qualifying event, overcoming Crawford and Vickery in the process, also lost her opener.
