Junior Tennis Champions Center excels at Easter Bowl
COLLEGE PARK, MD (April 20, 2009) – The Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, MD, lived up to its name in the past two weeks as 24 of its players competed in four of the most prestigious tennis events in North America and achieved outstanding results.

Fifteen top juniors who train intensively at the JTCC traveled to Rancho Mirage, CA, to play in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Easter Bowl Championships from April 13-19. Widely regarded as the most significant junior event for American players, JTCC juniors put their skills to the test and earned top marks.

Denis Kudla, 16, of Arlington , VA , won the 18-and-under boys’ doubles. Luca Corinteli, 13, of Alexandria , VA , made it to the semi-final round in the boys’ 14-and-under singles, finishing fourth. Junior Ore , 16, of Gaithersburg , MD , and Mitchell Frank, 16, of Annandale , VA , were defeated in the semi-final round of the boy’s 18-and-under doubles competition. And Spencer Liang, 14, of Potomac , MD , finished fifth in the 14-and-under singles and was a finalist in doubles. She also earned the Easter Bowl’s sportsmanship award in her age group. Skylar Morton, 14, of Bethesda , MD , finished sixth in the girl’s 16-and- under division.

Held just a week prior to the Easter Bowl, the JTCC was represented by two of its top-ranked juniors in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) International Spring Championships, a Level 1 ITF tournament. Mitchell Frank, ranked 41st in the world in the 18-and-under division, captured the prestigious title, defeating fellow JTCC player Denis Kudla in the boys’ singles semifinals. Both players have qualified to compete in the French Open junior tournament scheduled for May __ to June ___, 2009, at the legendary Roland Garros stadium in Paris .

In perhaps the most dramatic result, Hai-Li Kong of Potomac , MD , who recently turned 14, represented the JTCC and finished as a finalist in the 18-and-under competition at the ITF Canadian Junior Championships in Burlington , Ontario , from April 14-19.

At the USTA National Spring Championships 12-and-under competition held from April 12-18 in Delray Beach, FL, Ndindi Ndunda, 11, finished in fifth place. And at the same event, Yancy Dennis, 12, of Reisterstown, MD, defeated the tournament’s number one seed and reached the quarterfinal round.

The JTCC, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a world-class training facility located at The Tennis Center at College Park . Its goal is to provide the athletic and academic instruction needed for talented and highly committed young people to excel both on the tennis court and in the classroom. The JTCC offers training to children between the ages of four and 18 on a part- and full-time basis. Located in the Washington , DC , metropolitan area, students can choose from weekly group clinics to intense, full-time training programs including on-site academic instruction.
