Australian Juniors await World Finals
Australian tennis is on track to show the depth of its junior talent pool with all four Australian Junior teams qualifying for their respective World Finals which will be held in the Czech Republic and Mexico later this year.


The Optus Australian World Junior Tennis Competition girls’ team of Kassandra Dunser (NT), Stefani Stojic (VIC) and Teiwa Casey (WA) is the fourth team to secure a spot in the World Finals, winning through to the final four at the Asia/Oceania qualifying event in Kuching , Malaysia on Saturday.


The Australian team, who were seeded third for the tournament, won their group in the round robin pool and finished fourth overall after going down to top seeds Japan in the semifinal and second seeds Korea in the final.


Two weeks ago the Optus Australian World Junior Tennis Competition boys’ team of Jay Andrijic (NSW), Nick Kyrgios (ACT) and Daniel Talens (SA) finished in the top spot at the Asia/Oceania qualifying event, also held in Malaysia. Both teams will head to Prostejov in the Czech Republic for the World Final in August.


In April both the Optus Australian Junior Davis Cup team of Joey Swaysland, Luke Saville (SA) and Todd Volmari (VIC) and the Optus Australian Junior Fed Cup team of Viktorija Rajicic (VIC), Molly Polak (VIC) and Alexandra Nancarrow (ACT) qualified for the World Finals in Mexico by winning their respective quarterfinals at the Asia/Oceania Qualifying Event in Shepparton, Victoria. The teams were captained by Australian tennis champions, Pat Rafter and Alicia Molik. The World Final of Junior Davis and Junior Fed Cup will take place in Mexico in September.


The World Junior Tennis Competition is an ITF team event for boys and girls aged 14/u. The World Final will be held in Prostejov , Czech Republic , in August.


Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is an international team event for boys and girls aged 16 and under. Regional qualifying events are played in Asia/Oceania, Europe, South America and North/Central America and the Carribean to determine the top sixteen teams.


In 2007 the Optus Australian World Junior Tennis Competition boys’ team and the Optus Australian Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup teams won their respective world finals.
